Teyran will be the ideal starting point to discover the magnificent Occitane region. For your road trip in the south of France, start your exploration with the city of Montpellier a few kilometers away. It's a must-stop, a vibrant college town filled with bars, restaurants and museums. Do not miss the famous Place de la Comédie, which looks a lot like the Place de l'Opéra in Paris with its typical Haussmann style. It is the nerve center of Montpellier which will open the doors of the historic center and its botanical gardens to you. For lovers of paintings, the Fabre museum houses treasures that will dazzle you.
Driving on country roads lined with olive trees and vineyards, towards the North-West of the department, you will discover picturesque villages where time seems to have stood still. Stop at Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, one of the most beautiful medieval villages listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the road to Santiago de Compostela, where you can stroll the cobbled streets and admire the abbey of Gellone, a jewel of Romanesque architecture.
From Saint Guilhem, set off to explore the spectacular Hérault Gorges, especially from the impressive Devil's Bridge. Continue your journey towards the coast and explore the wild beaches and coves that border the Mediterranean. The Camargue with Aigues Mortes as a highlight will completely disorient you. Another option: go to Sète and its ponds which border the sea with a very special luminosity.
Finally, do not forget to taste the local gastronomy. The markets of the region offer a wide variety of fresh and local products, such as seafood, goat cheeses, honey and wines from the region.
