Saint André de Cubzac will be the ideal starting point to discover the beautiful Bordeaux region in a motorhome.

Obviously, a visit to Bordeaux is essential: the city is sublime and has many wonderful surprises in store for you, as the metropolis has been transformed in recent years. However, historical architectural treasures remain: Bordeaux has more than 350 buildings classified as Historical Monuments, including 3 religious buildings listed as World Heritage by Unesco since 1998 as part of the roads to Saint Jacques de Compostela. We recommend: the Grand Théâtre on the Cours du Chapeau-Rouge; the Place de la Bourse and its sublime water mirror, especially at the end of the day when the effects of light are in full play; the Porte Cailhau which offers a nice perspective and stroll along the quays; the Big Bell, a vestige of medieval times; finally, the Rohan Palace near Saint-André Cathedral now houses the Town Hall, a building impressive in size, where you will discover one of the most beautiful stone staircases.

But obviously, Bordeaux and its surroundings will have some great discoveries in store for you during your road trip in a motorhome in the vineyard. Before setting off to discover these treasures in a motorhome, a visit to the majestic Cité du Vin will allow you to decipher the ancestral know-how of winemaking. Bordeaux and its 100,000 hectares of vines are recognized worldwide for 3 main grape varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. You thus have 4 wine routes to explore: the Médoc wine route; the wine route in Graves and Sauternes; the Saint Emilion wine route and the Entre deux Mers wine route. And who says vineyard says castles: the wine routes of Bordeaux are indeed marked out with superb residences to discover aboard your motorhome:

  • the Cos Labory castle in Saint-Estèphe;
  • the Bellegrave castle in Pauillac;
  • Château Kirwan in Cantenac (which even offers an audioguide tour of the cellars via tablet);
  • the castle of Maucaillou in Moulis-en-Médoc;
  • Château Faugères in Saint-Etiène-de-Lisse and its surprising cellar-cathedral;
  • the Closserie de Fronsac in Saint-Michel-de-Fronsac;
  • the Château Marquis de Vauban in Blaye;
  • Château Pape Clément in Pessac where you can even take part in a workshop to create your own wine;
  • the Château de Reignac in Saint-Loubès and its greenhouse signed Gustave Eiffel.
